Sheep shearing ponds were flooded to create Lake Shear Water (to give it its' proper but little used name). The lake and surrounding woods are very popular with walkers, fisherfolk, Sunday club sailors, horseriders, cyclists, and the main car park is a haven for thieves (so take your valuables with you when you leave the car).
