Having originally planned to do the trip on a Honda Innova 125 that sadly didn't make the start line, I had no idea that I would need to take the Yamaha, which was a big risk as it was due a service and a new set of tyres, but I didn't have time to do either.

The engine is very strong; I've seen several ST's with +200.000km in their clock. Intake valve clearances may creep tighter (adjusting with shims) and carbs wear their needle tubes quite quickly (replace them every 30.000km or so). If more power needed, an early 850 TDM engine fits right in.
