Morris Garages/MG Car Company (1924-1935) William Morris started building bicycles in Longwall Street, Birmingham. By 1911 Morris had turned his attention to motor cars and was selling and repairing various makes from the rebuilt premises, now renamed Morris Garages.

The company was founded by an automobile engineer Cecil Kimber in a garage called "Morris Garage". Born on 12 April 1888, he began working for the car tycoon William Morris (later Lord Nuffield) in 1921 and got the position of general manager of the Morris Garages chain in Oxford a year later.

The MG Car Company got its name from Morris Garages, a dealer of Morris cars in Oxford which began producing its own customised versions to the designs of Cecil Kimber, who had joined the company as its sales manager in 1921. He was promoted to general manager in 1922,a position he held until 1941.
