Needed several "ice eaters" so heres what the crew did to save money. Went and bought several Trolling Motors. (cheap ones are fine) Made frames for them to be staked under water and for the fan to face upward. then ran the cord under conduit(you can run cords anyway you choose) and had batteries in the blind.

Home-made Ice eater. I have a couple old trolling motors and am thinking about trying to convert them into ice-eaters. They both have 9" props so I'm thinking about mounting one inside of a 10" PVC pipe that's about 18-24 inches long. Build a stand for it and rig it up with dual batteries so it can run on 24 volts.

dasimmon. Not trying to burst your bubble, but I built one of these 6 or 7 years ago that looked damn similar to yours. 55 lb thrust trolling motor. Didn't move hardly enough water to justify setting it up. We run ice eaters a fair bit now and I would estimate it moved 5% of the water volume of a 1/2 hp ice eater.
