Papier mâché masks are made out of newspaper and glue, and if you have a friend to help you they are surprisingly easy to make. Prepare the glue and newspaper strips first and then begin molding the mask on your friend's face. Apply additional layers of newspaper and glue to create a firm shell.

Instructions Make a Mold of the Face or Balloon Tear off a piece of aluminum foil at least twice as long as the subject's face, and fold it in half. Use the subject's face as a mold by gently pressing the double layer of tin foil over it. Wad up the newspaper and place it inside the curved section of the foil mold and lay it on your work surface.

The clay is going to act as a mold so, what you create with the clay will be what you mask winds up looking like. Fine details can be added using the mache, and not needed during the clay process. Don't worry about the clay color, it make no difference.

Step 2 - Add Paper Strips. Mix glue and a little bit of water to make a paper mache mixture. Cut up or rip your paper into roughly the same-sized strips. Paper Mache Glue Recipe: Add 1 part glue to 2 parts water. Place your mask mesh cut-out on a flat surface and start covering it with the dipped paper strips.
