Two Riders on the Beach (Zwei Reiter am Strand) is actually the title of two similar paintings that Liebermann painted in 1901 when he was on holiday in the Netherlands. He was particularly inspired by the variety of light in the Netherlands, and his paintings at this time heralded what he believed was a new creative period.
