1. The kitchen island is the focal point of this kitchen, featuring open shelving at the end for convenient access to cookbooks and other kitchen items. The island dimensions are 78″ by 36″. The backsplash in this kitchen is Carrara Marble. The herringbone tile is 2″ by 4″ and the remaining subway tile is 3″ by 6″.

The slab we found has plenty of veining, but the white between the veins is bright white — not gray — and it just glows in the kitchen. 04/16/2011 at 12:04 am. Interesting discussion but this misspelling of the name of the marble is driving me crazy! It's not Calcutta - that is a city in India. Nor is it Calacutta. The correct name is Calacatta Gold (calacatta d'oro) and the marble comes from Cararra, Italy. Whew, I feel so much better now.
