Therm-a-Rest RidgeRest SOlite vs ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Air Pad? Ok, so any day now I'm gonna go on my first overnight backpacking trip, and one of the two items I still need is a sleeping pad. I'm deciding between these two. The Thermarest is $29 and the ALPS is $39.

Pros Lightweight Durable Closed-cell Cons None I borrowed this pad from my mother-in-law and used it on a cold weather hiking/camping trip recently.

Z-lite starts off more comfortable but flattens to a thinner size than the ridgerest after an excessive amount of use. It's easier to fold the panels into your pack as well, but a torso length ridgerest will fit inside some packs (load it in first so it serves as a foam liner for your other gear.)

June 1, 2017 A technologically advanced closed-cell sleeping pad, offering very good warmth and lightweight in this class. My thermarest ridgerest solite is about two years past its prime. I've been looking to buy a new one for about two years but it appears that that won't be happening. Does anyone know what's happening with these? Did thermarest stop making them or is it just another supply chain issue? Anyone know where to get them? 31 comments Best Add a Comment

Likes Slightly thicker foam makes this pad noticeably more comfortable and warmer than the Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite SOL and Ridge Rest SOLite. As with all closed cell pads, the Ridge Rest SOLAR is very durable and does not require tender loving care like most inflatable pads.

Thermarest Z Lite vs RidgeRest A Head to Head Comparison Gone Camping

Reflective. Inexpensive. Durable. Makes a good pillow. Cons. Ridges catch snow. Bulky. This is one of those iconic pieces of gear that came along and made the world a better place and will never go away. The bad thing for Therm-a-Rest is that, this works so well that I will never go back to an iffy inflatable mattress.

Thermarest Z Lite Sol Alternative Therm A Rest Regular Unisex

The Ridge Rest Solar is slightly thicker than the regular Ridge Rest, so it is a bit more comfortable for side sleepers, but both pads are far less comfortable than inflatable air mattresses or self-inflating pads, unless you like sleeping on a very firm mat.
