Conroe, TX (August 20, 2022) - History has been made in the Gulf Coast Wing Cadet Program. For the first time in at least a dozen years, perhaps in the history of the Gulf Coast Wing, Cadets are getting qualified to fly as aircrew on B-17 Texas Raiders. On August 19, 2022, Cadets JT Mounce and Robert Buniva attended Load Master School at the Wing.

While not officially confirmed, flight tracking data via our friend Evergreen Intel indicates the two aircraft involved were B-17 'Texas Raiders' (seen in the banner image of this post) and a P-63.

The Boeing-built B-17 Texas Raiders is one of only four flight worthy aircraft today. Construction was completed on the aircraft in July 1945, as one of the last built at the Long Beach, California plant. During World War II, a B-17 was flown with a crew of ten. Powered by four Wright Cyclone nine-cylinder radial engines, the long range heavy.
