General Information Abbesses station is on Line 12 of the métro in the 18eme arrondissement, running in the directions of Porte de la Chapelle and Porte Versailles. The station was named after the abbesses of the nearby Dames-de Montmartre abbey and it is one of the deepest stations in Paris at nearly 36 metres.

Line 12 (Abbesses) and Line 2 (Anvers and Blanche) are the closest metro stations. Montmartre is located north of the city center of Paris and usually takes around 30-40 minutes to arrive via the metro. TIP: When exiting the Abbesses metro stop, be sure to follow the crowd and take the elevator exit.

1. Re: nearest metro stop to Montmartre 14 years ago Save Abbesses is right in Montmartre (it's quite a big area) and brings you out 100m from the funicular that goes up to the Sacre Coeur. You can also get on the Montmartrobus on rue Lepic (minibus, runs every 15 minutes) with all the locals and take that right to the top too.

If you're visiting Montmartre for the first time, I recommend stopping at Abbesses station. If you take M2, you can either stop at Blanche station which will put you next to Moulin Rouge, Place de Clichy, or Anvers Station.
