Carlo Sand Blow. This great bowl of wind-blown sand above Rainbow Beach is arrestingly beautiful. Named for a crew-member on Cook's first voyage to these parts, it's reached by a short climb through subtropical forest, after which the foliage parts to reveal a vast scoop of golden sand, with views to Fraser Island and Inskip Point to the north.

The scenery from the top is just stunning with views of Double Island Point, Tin Can Bay and the coloured sands. The main attraction at Rainbow Beach was Carlo Sand blow, an amazing natural wonder named by Captain Cook after one of his crew, which our hostel offered a free guided walk to. We drove through the town, which consists of a few blocks of tourist shops and cafes, and bypassed the beach to first do the Cooloola Great Walk which leads to Carlo Sand Blow.
