Designed by the colonial architect, Alexander Dawson and built in 1860, the 3 storey lighthouse was built of sandstone blocks quarried near the present day Jervis Bay village. The tower was 61 feet high (18.5m) with 8 rooms at ground level. The floor was timber and cast iron girders held up a roof of stone flagging covered with asphalt.

Booderee is beautiful at any time of year. Average temperatures range from 9-15°C in July to 17-24°C in January. The summer period is very popular and all our camping areas fill up well before Christmas. Background The Australian National Botanic Gardens' Jervis Bay Annexe is situated in the Jervis Bay Territory, an area of 7400 ha (18 500 ac) acquired from New South Wales in 1915 under the Jervis Bay Territory Acceptance Act. The Annexe was part of the Jervis Bay Nature Reserve, covering 4500 ha which was established in 1971.
