The impounded reservoir is called Lake Huntsman . The dam was constructed in 2006 by the Tasmanian Rivers & Water Supply Commission for the principal purpose of delivering a reliable supply of irrigation water to the Meander Valley, estimated at 44,200 hectares (109,000 acres).

Anglers are enjoying some good fishing at Huntsman Lake. After recent rain the lake is rising over new ground and the brown trout have been foraging close to shore feeding on worms and drowned terrestrials. One angler checked by Fisheries Officers this week had landed two nice brown trout fishing worms under a bubble float.
