Created by Dana Terrace, Disney Channel's "TheOwl House" tells the story of a girl named Luz Noceda (Sarah-Nicole Robles), an ambitious dreamer from Connecticut who accidentally travels through a portal to a magical world called the Boiling Isles instead of heading to summer camp. There, she meets "The Owl Lady," Eda Clawthorne (Wendie Malick), an individualistic and talented witch who offers to train Luz in magic as they try to get her back to the human realm. Living at the Owl House with Eda and another roommate, the demon King (Alex Hirsch), Luz quickly makes herself at home in this strange new land, attending a local magic school where she makes new friends, enemies, and more.

"The Owl House" is a fan-favorite series for a variety of reasons, one of the biggest being that the show made history by having Disney's first bisexual lead in a series, with Luz and Amity (Mae Whitman), a girl from her school, starting a relationship. This is a major accomplishment for kids' animation and is just one example of the constantlyexpanding LGBTQ+ representation.

Season 3 of "The Owl House" kicked off on October 15, but there's a lot more to come from Luz and company. Here's everything we know about the current season.

Season 3 of "The Owl House" is in full swing, but it's not following the layout of its prior seasons.Deadline broke the news that Season 3 would only consist of three 44-minute specials. This is quite the departure from Seasons 1 and 2 which had 19 and 21 episodes, respectively. The first special episode hit the Disney Channel on October 15 before making its way to YouTube. It then made its appearance on Disney+, debuting on the streaming service for U.S. audiences on December 14 (via Collider). Warning: This section contains mild spoilers for the first episode of "The Owl House" Season 3

Disney released a vague synopsis of Season 3 of "The Owl House," but we have a better understanding of it now that Episode 1, "Thanks to Them," is under our belts. "After months of trying, Luz [Noceda] and her friends make a daring attempt to return to the Demon Realm." Season 3 kicks off withLuz, Amity, Hunter, Willow, and Gus getting pulled back into the Human Realm. Luz's friends are welcomed into her home by her mother, but they seem stuck as the portal which led them there is now closed. Reaching the Boiling Isles seems impossible at this point, but it doesn't mean they're not going to try.

Without giving too much away for those who haven't seen Episode 1 yet, the friends find a way to reopen the portal, but a certain someone gets in their way. There also may or may not be a shocking death no one saw coming, and the aftermath of this will certainly fuel the events in the final two episodes. As for the second episode, titled "For the Future," we have a short plot synopsis (via CBR.com)that reads — slight spoiler alert — "Luz and her friends race against Belos to confront the Collector and save the Boiling Isles."

Who is the showrunner of The Owl House Season 3?

Disney

Dana Terrace is the showrunner and creator of "The Owl House." Additionally, she serves as an animator, writer, and producer on the animated flick. Terrace also lent her talents to "DuckTales," where she directed several episodes while working in the animation department. One of 20221s most successfully animated flicks, "The Mitchells vs. the Machines," also has Terrace on its crew list as she served as the storyboard artist.

"The Owl House" is Terrace's baby; she seems sad to let it go but hopeful about the future. "In any case, there are still a lot of awesome TOH episodes left to come out, and all the support IS seen and appreciated. Not only does it support the crew but it encourages studios to take bigger risks on shows coming down the pipeline. And, who knows? Maybe there's a future for the Owl House world if DTV has different people in charge," she wrote on Reddit.

Is there a trailer for The Owl House Season 3?

Why, yes there is! Much like the synopsis for Season 3 of "The Owl House," the trailer is pretty open-ended and doesn't give much away. It's even cut off at the end as one character covers his ears and says he doesn't want to hear any spoilers. We see a lot of Episode 1 in the trailer when Luz shows up at her mom's house with her friends who are now fish out of water.

We also see Luz record a diary episode, where she feels guilty about putting all the people she knows in danger. This could be something she struggles with in the last two episodes. There are also a few glimpses into the demon realm and an especially scary shot of a giraffe that we wish we could unsee. The trailer ends with "Calling All Monsters" written across the screen among a background of green goo.

Where to watch previous seasons of The Owl House

Since "The Owl House" is a project of Disney, it's easily accessible on their Disney+ app. The streaming giant has all episodes of Seasons 1 and 2 but doesn't yet have the first episode of Season 3. But don't forget, as we mentioned, you can stream that in its entirety for free on YouTube.

Some episodes of "The Owl House" are also available on Disney Now, but it's only a select few. Season 3, Episode 1, Season 2, Episodes 9-12, and Season 1, Episode 22 are all available on the site, but you will have to watch ads along the way. Disney XD also airs reruns of "The Owl House," so check your local listings if you're still rocking with cable. If you're looking to own the animated hit, it's available for purchase on Amazon Prime, iTunes, and other platforms where you can buy digital content.

Will there be a Season 4 of The Owl House?

Disney

Unfortunately, Season 3 will be the last for "TheOwl House," which understandably upsets fans as it's the shortest yet. The series showrunner,Dana Terrace, took to Reddit to host an AMA on "The Owl House" subreddit but did it with a twist where she addressed all the rumors so the fans could separate fact from fiction. There was wild speculation about why Disney chose to cancel the series ahead of a potential Season 4, and Terrace shed some light as to why it happened.

Perhaps the biggest theory behind "The Owl House" cancellation was because of its LGBTQ representation. "While we have had issues airing in a few countries (and are just straight up banned in a few more) I'm not gonna assume bad faith against the people I work with in LA," Terrace said of the accusation. While trying to generalize why "The Owl House" was canceled, Terrace offered up this: "At the end of the day, there are a few business people who oversee what fits into the Disney brand and one day one of those guys decided TOH didn't fit that "brand". The story is serialized (BARELY compared to any average anime lmao), our audience skews older, and that just didn't fit this one guy's tastes. That's it! Ain't that wild? Really grinds my guts, boils my brain, kicks my shins, all the things. It sucks but it is what it is."
